Burford Garden Centre is so much more than your average garden centre. Whilst it offers many of the traditional aspects of a traditional countryside garden centre such as beautiful plants and flowers to admire and take home, there are plenty of other gems to be found. Le Souk takes its name from the open air bazaars of Morocco and Asia and is a great place to pick up some beautiful, one-of-a-kind items. From textiles and ceramics to striking garden furniture and homewares, you can pick up some wonderful goods that you wont find anywhere else. As far away as you can get from mass-produced, were sure youll find plenty of unique and one-off items to tempt you. At Burford Garden Centre youll also find some stylish garden and home furniture to suit both traditional and modern tastes. The plant selection is renowned for the area and features different recommendations according to whats in bloom. W.J Castle Butchers is a part of the W.J Castle/Jesse Smith chain of stores and is a popular fixture on Burfords high street. Selling locally sourced meat which is excellently cut and prepared, they provide high quality choice for both residents and visitors. Theres a great selection of produce available, which is one of the bonuses of purchasing from a local retailer like W.J Castle, offering cuts including game and poultry which youd be unlikely to find in your local supermarket. Highly recommended, pay them a visit during your stay and pick up some fine local produce to cook up a storm at a Jigsaw property. Cotswold Cheese Company
The Cotswold Cheese Company is famous throughout the Cotswolds as sellers and producers of high quality cheese in over 80 different varieties. The company opened its second store in Burford in 2013 and theyre still going strong. The shop sells cheeses from all over the world as well as classic British cheeses and typical accompaniments including chutneys, biscuits and pats. You'll also find a novel selection of craft drinks to go with your cheese too - ideal for those who enjoy a tipple with their cheese! Have you ever desperately needed to buy a hat and a book at the same time? Probably not, but Burford is packed with quirky stores like this which are a must-visit when youre in the Cotswolds. The shop itself is attractive and wonderfully designed, as are the products inside. Selling a wide variety of hats for special occasions as well as more casual hats, MadHatter is a great place to visit if you have a wedding or other event which requires more formal headwear. The hats are all handmade offering superb quality and style which are surely worth admiring, even if you dont purchase anything. The book department meanwhile offers a fantastic selection of books and shows a dedication to literature through book signings, talks, tours and more and is a much-loved part of the local community. There are a range of great titles on offer and the shop provides a great opportunity for traditional browsing which is now lacking on todays high streets since the rise of online shopping. Huffkins
Huffkins began as a family owned-bakery all the way back in 1890 and is somewhat of a Burford institution. The old bakehouse still remains but the bakery now operates across two beautiful grade II listed buildings which add to the traditional country bakery experience. Everything is baked in store and by hand, just as it was when the bakery first opened. The result is delicious, high quality baked goods that you can enjoy either in the caf or take away. Huffkins sources its ingredients from local suppliers, adding to the home-grown feel of the bakery. The menu is extensive and covers everything from pastries and sandwiches to ice creams and a tea selection which is really something to be admired. Huffkins is another great place to find afternoon tea and includes both classic and bubbles options a perfect way to wile away an afternoon in the Cotswolds.
