Thermae Bath Spa: Spa Guide

2,000 years ago, the Celts and Romans took advantage of Bath’s naturally heated, mineral-rich waters – the only such place in Britain. Today, visitors to Bath can enjoy those very same warm waters at the Thermae Bath Spa, nestled in the heart of the city.

The spa is a long shout from the baths used all those years ago. With a spectacular rooftop pool providing views of Bath, luxurious treatments and beautiful indoor facilities, it’s the ultimate place to relax and unwind during your explorations of the city.

About Thermae Bath Spa

The Spa is made up of two buildings – the Main Spa, known as the New Royal Bath, and the more intimate open-air Cross Bath. These are booked separately.

Firstly, the New Royal Bath is a luxurious, contemporary building described as a fusion of glass, stone, light and water. It includes two pools; the open-air rooftop pool, where you can relax in the warm, mineral-rich waters and enjoy views over the city, and the indoor Minerva Bath which includes invigorating massage jets, whirlpool and lazy river.

The New Royal Bath also includes the Wellness Suite, featuring a Georgian steam room, Roman steam room, Ice chamber, Infrared room, experience showers and Celestial Relaxation Room – all designed to help visitors completely relax and unwind. You can also pop into the Springs Café Restaurant, a beautiful mixture of Georgian and modern design serving healthy, delicious food and drink.

Visitors can also choose from a selection of packages and treatments while at the spa, spanning from massages and hot stones to facials and water experiences. Treatments should be booked in advance and can only be booked along with a spa session.

Meanwhile, the Cross Bath is an intimate, open-air thermal bath, set in a different building to the main spa. The site was once where the Celts worshipped the goddess Sul, and has been recognised as a sacred site. You can relax in the naturally warm waters and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, including springs and a fountain.
