Gloucester Tall Ships Festival - 29th - 31st May 2009

Sail back in time at Britains most inland port as Gloucester Docks celebrate their Tall Ships Festival next weekend. Following the successful inaugural event in 2007 thousands of people are expected to flock to this multi-award winning event. Held between Friday 29th and Sunday 31st May 2009 this three day family event is free to attend and gives everyone a taste of the sights and sounds of the docks as they once were. There will be six magnificent ships and dockside events coupled with The Gloucester Through the Ages event. Clamber aboard The Matthew, Tangaroa, Johanna Lucretia, Kaskelot, The Phoenix and The Earl of Pembroke. Dry land highlights include cabaret performances on the Cirque Bijou Harbour Stage, Viking combat and a chance for children to become Viking warriors, live music and a 1940s fashion show on both the Saturday and Sunday. The popular Medieval Banquet is also set to return on Saturday 30th May, taking place at the Chapter House in Gloucester Cathedral at 7pm. The ticket price of 35 includes a three course meal, glass of mead, as well as entertainment including musicians singing medieval tunes, knights fighting and a charity auction. The Tall Ships will arrive between 3pm and 4pm on Friday 29th May, with the festival taking place between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May.
