Country living at the Moreton in Marsh Show Saturday, 3rd September

The best way to experience the countryside in a day, the Moreton in Marsh Show has plenty going on and attracts people from all over the UK to take part in different activities and events. The show has taken place every year since 1949 and is one of the largest of its type in the area. Featuring many equestrian competitions, cattle demonstrations, exhibits and more theres plenty to see at the show. As well as the typical agriculture events, there are also plenty of trade stands, including food and drink stalls, clothing and more, giving people of all ages a chance to experience a true taste of autumn in the Cotswolds. Where to stay: Slatters Cottage in Bourton-on-the-Hill is under a 15-minute drive from the show, or you could walk it in under an hour. Admire autumn in the Cotswolds with falling leaves at Batsford Arboretum and Westonbirt Arboretum

As well as the striking views youll find all over the Cotswolds, the area is also home to two beautiful arboreta the Batsford Arboretum and Westonbirt Arboretum. Both featuring collections of some of the worlds most beautiful trees, theyre a must-see to take in some beautiful autumn foliage. Batsford Arboretum is home to the UKs largest collection of trees, providing beautiful views all year long. The Arboretum is uniquely placed on a south facing slope, providing amazing sights, particularly in the autumn when the colours become warm and rich. Westonbirt Arboretum meanwhile features over 15,000 specimens from across the world, with a spectacular walkway providing spectacular views from across the area - a fantastic way to witness some wonderful sights and sounds of autumn in the Cotswolds. Take part in country tradition at the Blenheim Palace Horse Trials 8th 11th September

The Blenheim Palace Horse Trials is a 4-day event which is a firm favourite during autumn in the Cotswolds. As a long-running event, it attracts people from all over the world who come to soak up the atmosphere at its three main phases of events dressage, cross country and show jumping. There is plenty on offer for everyone at the event including shopping, demonstrations, riding lessons and childrens activities, whilst the grounds of Blenheim Palace are a must-see. A wonderful autumn show with plenty to see, its one of the areas autumn highlights. Where to stay: Rose Barn in Chimney, Bampton is a striking barn conversion which is located around 35 minutes from Blenheim Palace. It offers spacious, luxury accommodation for up to 8 people, and is within easy reach of London for those looking to escape the city for a break.

Get close to nature with falconry displays at Cotswold Wildlife Park 3rd-4th September

The Cotswold Wildlife Park makes a great day out at any time of year, but this autumn there are a series of falconry flying displays on the cards, including the first weekend of September. The displays feature some of the UKs best loved birds of prey including owls, vultures, eagles and falcons for a fun day experiencing autumn in the Cotswolds for all the family. Whilst youre there, you can enjoy getting close to many wonderful creatures, including some triplet lion cubs, born earlier this summer. Get exploring by birdwatching at Cotswold Water Park and Slimbridge Wetland Centre

If youd rather discover birds in their more natural environment, then the Cotswolds offers some great locations to enjoy a bit of birdwatching. At Cotswold Water Park youll enjoy the thrill of spotting some wonderful wildlife including lapwings, bitterns, plovers and snipes, with many more varieties beginning to arrive for the winter. Meanwhile at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, there are many great species of bird to enjoy. From water birds and amphibians to otters and other mammals, there are plenty of species to observe in the centres beautiful surroundings. Keen photographers will love taking snaps against the gorgeous autumn backdrop whilst theres plenty of space for picnicking too.
